Not Every Spiritual Experience Comes from God
We are living in a generation fascinated by the supernatural.
Dreams.
Visions.
Angel encounters.
Prophetic words.
Signs.
Wonders.
But spiritual activity alone does not prove divine origin.
Scripture warns:
“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits…” — 1 John 4:1
Not every voice is heaven.
Not every manifestation is holy.
Not every prophetic word is from God.
Discernment is no longer optional.
It is survival.
Satan Does Not Always Appear Dark
Many imagine deception arrives looking evil.
But Scripture says:
“For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” — 2 Corinthians 11:14
This means deception often feels spiritual.
It can sound wise.
It can feel emotional.
It can even quote Scripture.
When Jesus was tempted, Satan quoted Scripture.
The enemy studies what moves believers.
5 Signs of Spiritual Counterfeit
1. It Exalts the Messenger More Than Christ
If the spotlight constantly falls on personalities instead of Jesus, discern carefully.
2. It Produces Confusion Instead of Peace
God may convict.
But He does not manipulate.
“God is not the author of confusion.” — 1 Corinthians 14:33
3. It Contradicts Scripture
The Holy Spirit authored Scripture.
He does not contradict Himself.
4. It Feeds Fleshly Desire
If revelation always affirms comfort but never calls for holiness, be cautious.
5. It Avoids Accountability
True prophetic ministry welcomes testing.
How to Protect Yourself
Stay in Scripture.
Stay in prayer.
Stay accountable.
Stay humble.
Test every word.
Watch the fruit.
Jesus said:
“You will know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16
Fruit never lies.
Final Prayer
Father, sharpen our discernment. Expose every counterfeit voice, every deceptive spirit, and every false influence. Teach us to recognize truth, walk in wisdom, and remain anchored in Christ. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
