The Silent Blockage No One Talks About
One of the most dangerous things a believer can carry… is offense. This is something we have wrote about on God’s Altar and You before, but feels it needs to be really emphasized on.
It is dangerous not because of what was done to you—
but because of what it does inside of you.
You can be praying, fasting, serving, and still feel disconnected from God.
Not because God stopped speaking…
but because something is blocking your ability to hear.
A hardened heart cannot receive a soft voice, and offense can harden the heart if left untreated.
What Is a Hardened Heart?
A hardened heart is not always obvious. It doesn’t always look like rebellion.
Sometimes it looks like:
- Being easily irritated
- Holding onto past hurt
- Constantly feeling misunderstood
- Struggling to trust people (and even God)
- Becoming spiritually numb
At its core, a hardened heart is a heart that has been wounded but not healed.
What you don’t heal from, you will harden from.
How Offense Blocks God’s Voice
Offense is not just emotional—it is spiritual.
When offense takes root, it begins to distort your perception:
- You misinterpret God’s instructions
- You question what He previously told you
- You become resistant to correction
- You lose spiritual sensitivity
In Scripture:
- Pharaoh hardened his heart and could not discern God’s power
- The Pharisees were offended—and missed Jesus standing in front of them
Offense doesn’t just block people—it blocks revelation.
The Hidden Danger: You May Not Even Know It
One of the most dangerous aspects of a hardened heart is this:
You can have one and not realize it.
You can still:
- Show up to church
- Speak in faith language
- Serve in ministry
Yet internally, your heart has become guarded, closed, and resistant.
This is why many believers feel stuck.
They are active spiritually—but blocked internally.
Signs Your Heart May Be Hardening
Take an honest moment to reflect. A hardened heart often shows up as:
- Defensiveness – You struggle to receive correction
- Bitterness – You replay hurt over and over
- Distance from God – Prayer feels dry or forced
- Lack of compassion – You feel indifferent toward others
- Inability to discern when God is speaking
- Delayed obedience – You hesitate when God speaks
A hardened heart doesn’t happen overnight—it develops over time.
Why Offense Is So Dangerous
Offense is dangerous because it feels justified.
You may have been wronged.
You may have been hurt deeply.
But offense whispers:
- “Protect yourself”
- “Don’t trust again”
- “They don’t deserve your forgiveness”
And slowly, your heart begins to close.
Offense builds walls where God wants openness.
How to Break Free from a Hardened Heart
Freedom is possible—but it requires intentional surrender. How?
1. Acknowledge the Hurt
Stop pretending you’re fine. Bring it before God honestly.
2. Choose Forgiveness (Even If It’s Hard)
Forgiveness is not saying what happened was okay—
it’s releasing yourself from the weight of it.
3. Invite God to Heal Your Heart
God doesn’t just want obedience
—He wants wholeness.
4. Stay in the Word
The Word softens what life tries to harden.
5. Guard Your Heart Daily
Be mindful of what you allow to take root.
Healing keeps your heart soft—softness keeps you sensitive to God.
7. A Soft Heart Is a Powerful Heart
When your heart is soft:
- You hear God more clearly
- You respond quicker to His voice
- You love deeper
- You walk in greater peace
Sensitivity to God is one of the greatest spiritual advantages you can have. Don’t let what that person did to you rob you of this!
Final Word: Don’t Let Offense Steal Your Breakthrough
Many people are waiting on God…
while God is waiting on their heart.
Your next level, your clarity, your breakthrough may not be blocked by the enemy…
It may be blocked by what you’re holding onto.
Let it go.
Release it.
Surrender it.
Because nothing is worth losing your ability to hear God clearly.
Declaration
I declare that every root of offense, bitterness, and hurt is uprooted from my heart.
I will not carry what God has called me to release.
My heart remain soft, open, and sensitive to the voice of God.
I walk in forgiveness, healing, and freedom.
Nothing will block my ability to hear Him clearly.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
